Summer is coming to an end, and back to school is just around the corner, but there is still plenty of time left to do more fun summer activities with the kids. Dog Swim Day at Kirksey Recreation Center

Bring your dogs to the pool! Livonia Park and Recreation will host a Dog Swim Day from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Botsford Pool. Cost is $4 per Livonia resident dog and $7 per non-resident dog, but there is no cost for Kirksey Recreation Center members or outdoor pool pass holders. Pay at the gate. No pre-registration required. 

Family Food Truck Rallies

Livonia Parks & Recreation hosts Family Family Food Truck Rallies, located at 15100 Hubbard St, Livonia, MI 48154, stop by the Kirksey Recreation Center’s East Lawn from 4–8 pm on August 20 to enjoy Livonia’s best food trucks. The event will also have live music, face painting and henna tattoos, a water slide bounce house, arts and crafts, lawn games, and more! Confirmed Food trucks for this weekend include House of Mac, La Taco Reina, Detroit Original Seafood, Nu Deli, and more. 

Family Day at the Cranbrook Art Museum

The Cranbrook Art Museum hosts Family Day every third Saturday during the summer. Visitors will find a variety of activities for all ages, including art and design explorations and hands-on, minds-on activities. The themes change monthly and serve as inspiration for art-making, sculpture scavenger hunts, kid-friendly tours, and conversations. Visitors can explore the galleries through guided activities and get their hands messy with educators in the Art Lab. They can imagine, build, and create at various art-making stations. Located at 39221 Woodward Ave, Bloomfield Hills, M, come out and get inspired this weekend 11 am- 3 pm. 

Join a Touch A Truck Event

This is the Motor City, and we love cars! Touch-A-Truck is an interactive family event that allows children and adults to explore vehicles of all types, including public service, emergency responders, antique trucks, construction equipment, big rigs, and much more! Children are encouraged to touch their favorite vehicles, get behind the wheel, and meet the people who help to build, protect, and serve our community!   • Saturday, August 27: Touch A Truck @ Greenmead Historical Village, Livonia

Kids Day at the Westland Historic Village Park

Learn how to properly hunt ghosts at Kids Day at the Westland Historic Village Park this Saturday, August 20, from 1 pm -4 pm. At this fun event for children 10-18 years old, you will investigate with Michigan’s great lakes ghost hunters. You can bring your own hunting equipment to explore various areas of the museum. Located at 857 S Wayne Road, Westland, MI 48185, this event is free to kids. Contact Great Lakes Ghost Hunters to RSVP at (734) 666-5116.

Free Fun at YMCA Family Days

Fun family activities don’t have to cost a bundle. This summer, the 7 YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit locations are hosting free community events open to the public!

Splash and Play at Plymouth Township Park

Looking for a place to cool off this summer? Venture out to the Plymouth Township Park at 46640 Ann Arbor Trail and take a run through the Sprayscape for free! The Sprayscape includes approximately 2600 square feet of space with 24 spray features. The splash pad is open daily from 10 am to 7:30 pm till Labor Day. The park also features a stationary train and a paved trail with a castle, barn, and pirate ship, making it an awesome playground for picnics and family-friendly walks!
