The History of the Ford Bronco

Our Livonia, Michigan dealership proudly sold the first Bronco Sport in the nation back in 2020 to the Ghastin Family. The original Ford Bronco helped set the standard for modern SUVs synonymous with off-road capabilities and an adventurous lifestyle. The first Bronco model was built in Michigan starting in 1965. The Ford Bronco has gone through various generations and updates until it was removed from Ford's model lineup in 1996.

The return of the Ford Bronco in the 2022 model year represents the seventh generation of Ford Bronco designs, pairing down the model's size to a midsize SUV for the first time in its history.

Discover the Rich History of the Ford Bronco here at Bill Brown Ford in Livonia, MI

Over more than a century in business, Ford has been creating vehicles that carry a strong fan base, but few models have made more fervent fans than the Ford Bronco. It's easy to understand when you compare the rugged off-road capability, customization, and the go-anywhere, do-anything spirit that Ford has always been known for.

In the 2021 model year, the Ford brand brought the Ford Bronco back in a big way, with 2-door and 4-door incarnations of the Bronco and an all-new, more compact Ford Bronco Sport model. We thought it was only fitting to show you the journey of the Ford Bronco and where it could take you in the near future.

Bold Bronco Beginnings

Making its grand debut in 1966, the first Ford Bronco was a utilitarian two-door vehicle with available wagon, roadster, and pickup body styles, all of which offered four-wheel drive for enhanced off-road capability.

Over the decades, the Ford Bronco evolved, growing in size and customization options. From the desert racing-oriented Ford Bronco Baja 1000 to the removable hard-top trucks that were popular among outdoor adventurers and families alike, the Ford Bronco consistently delivered impressive capability and versatility to suit the ever-changing needs of its drivers. However, while the Ford Bronco amassed quite the following over its lifespan, Ford ultimately retired the nameplate in the 1990's as demand grew for family SUVs like the Ford Expedition. Still, its adventurous spirit never truly left the lineup.

Ford Bronco vs. Jeep Wrangler

In case the concept of the four-wheel drive two-door SUV with customization capabilities and a removable roof sounds a bit familiar to you, trust us when we say you're not alone in thinking that. Many automotive critics and Ford fans have noticed key similarities between the Ford Bronco and the Jeep Wrangler, and that's not necessarily a coincidence. In fact, back in the 1940s, Ford used some of its production capabilities to build 4x4 Jeeps for the military. Many have speculated that those models may be the true origin of the inspiration for the Ford Bronco.

With standard 4x4 capabilities, a distinctive boxy styling that pays homage to its roots, and over 300 genuine Ford accessories to personalize it to your needs, the Ford Bronco is one Ford SUV you won't want to miss out on. Order yours today at our Michigan Ford dealership to own your own piece of Ford history.
