The History Of The Spree

The Livonia Spree has deep roots in the community, dating back to 1970 when Mayor Edward H. McNamara envisioned a unified celebration to bring the city’s residents together. What began as a modest gathering with chicken dinners and local entertainment has grown into a week-long festival that includes carnival rides, live performances, and a grand fireworks display.

In 1973, the event was named “Spree 23” by Industrial Development coordinator Daniel Gilmartinto mark Livonia’s 23rd birthday in a fun way. The name stuck and over the years, the event has evolved into a symbol of community spirit and togetherness, consistently drawing thousands of visitors to enjoy the family festivities and celebrate their city Livonia, Michigan.

Sunday’s Firework Finale

The highlight of the Livonia Spree is undoubtedly the grand fireworks show on Sunday, June 30. As the sun sets, anticipation builds for the 30-minute fireworks extravaganza, beginning at around 10:15 PM. Find your perfect spot on the Spree grounds early, as this event draws a large crowd. As you wait, enjoy a variety of treats from the food court. This event is the perfect way to end a week of celebration, bringing the community together under the night sky for a memorable experience.
