The Vision Behind Maverick Lobo

When Josh Blundo, a Maverick designer at Ford, joined the company in 2019, he saw the potential for a performance-oriented street truck. His vision led to the creation of a widebody, splitter-equipped Maverick that captured attention at the 2021 SEMA show. Inspired by this, Blundo and the team embarked on creating the Lobo, a street-performance version that meets Ford’s rigorous engineering standards.

Engineered For On-Road Excellence

The Maverick Lobo is engineered with precision to deliver on-road performance. Compared to the standard Maverick, its ride height is lowered by half an inch in the front and 1.12 inches in the rear, giving it a sleek stance. Under the hood, a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine powers the Lobo, complemented by a tuned suspension and enhanced braking system. The twin-clutch rear drive unit and torque vectoring technology ensure that the Maverick Lobo handles sharp corners like a performance car.

Lobo Mode

Inspired by drifting and autocross, the Maverick Lobo features a unique drive mode designed for closed courses. The Lobo mode optimizes cornering performance, grip, and stability by adjusting torque and minimizing stability control intervention. This mode transforms the Maverick Lobo into a formidable track vehicle, perfect for enthusiasts looking to push their truck to its limits.

It’s important to note that Lobo mode is explicitly designed for closed-course use, as it activates the truck’s torque while reducing stability control intervention. To ensure the Maverick Lobo can withstand the demands of high-performance driving, Ford has also upgraded its cooling system, incorporating the larger radiator, fan, and transmission oil cooler from the Maverick’s 4K towing package.

Street Truck Design With A Modern Twist

While the Maverick Lobo’s performance credentials are undeniably impressive, its visual appeal is equally captivating. Maintaining the Maverick’s distinctive aesthetics, the Lobo introduces a fresh interpretation that seamlessly blends contemporary design elements with nostalgic undertones.

The unique front styling, painted rear bumper, and rocker moldings contrast beautifully with the black-painted roof and striking 19-inch black wheels, creating a bold and unmistakable presence on the road. Additionally, the interior showcases a fusion of street art influences and athletic shoe design principles, courtesy of designer Kristen Keenan.

Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching, a graffiti-inspired overprint on the seats, and the Lobo name embossed into the black driver and passenger seats collectively pay homage to street culture while embracing current streetwear trends. This combination of colors and textures creates a cohesive and visually striking interior environment that perfectly complements the truck’s exterior allure.

Purposeful Technology For Enhanced Convenience

The Maverick Lobo is available in two configurations: standard and high. The standard model comes equipped with all the performance and design features, while the high configuration adds luxury touches such as a heated steering wheel, heated seats, Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 driver-assist technologies, a 360-degree camera, spray-in bedliner, moonroof, and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist. These features make the Maverick Lobo a performance beast and a practical everyday vehicle.
