Livonia’s Annual Passport To Safety Event

Each year, Livonia, Michigan, hosts the largest child health and safety event in the United States, Passport to Safety. On Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10 am to 2 pm, families with children from toddlers to 13 years old are invited to the Livonia Police and Fire Stations at 15050 Farmington Rd, Livonia, MI. This outdoor event is free and open to the public, offering complimentary pizza and water.

Co-founded by the Livonia Police/Fire Departments and Cheryl Bowker of Allstate Insurance Agency, this event is dedicated to educating the community on health and safety. Bill Brown Ford has proudly sponsored Passport to Safety since 2016; we are excited to support this vital community initiative once again through our philanthropic branch, Bill Brown Cares. Here’s what you can expect from the event and our booth.

Safety Stations

Passport to Safety addresses various concerns around security and protection that children face today, from internet and social media risks to physical safety issues such as water, biking, and home safety. The event aims to equip children and their families with the knowledge and resources to stay safe. Available stations include,

Hands-On Safety Demonstrations for Kids

Passport to Safety provides interactive experiences where children can engage and learn firsthand. The event will feature a variety of educational demonstrations and activities throughout the day, including showcases from the K-9 Policing Unit and the Jaws of Life, highlighting the impressive work of these specialized teams. Additionally, the Coast Guard and DTE will have equipment on display, allowing kids to understand their crucial roles in ensuring safety.

Throughout the day, you might see appearances from various beloved mascots such as Coastie, the Coast Guard’s mascot, Sparky the Fire Dog, Freddie the Fire Truck, Click-it-Cricket, and McGruff the Crime Dog. Additionally, Cooper, the Livonia Police Department’s therapy dog, along with his handler, will be walking around, offering children a unique opportunity to interact with a trained therapy dog.

Bill Brown Ford’s Car Seat Safety Station

Bill Brown Cares is thrilled to continue our support of the annual Livonia Passport to Safety event! At the Bill Brown Ford car seat safety station, a certified car seat technician from Livonia Fire & Rescue will demonstrate how to properly install and fit children in their car seats or booster seats. We’ll provide free swag bags, reusable water bottles, and safety activity books for children, along with car seat education sheets for parents to take home.

Livonia Firefighters will guide parents through the correct steps to set up their child’s car seat and educate on the importance of monitoring vehicle temperatures. With summer in full swing, it’s crucial to understand the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles. Bill Brown Ford of Livonia, Michigan, will supply a Ford vehicle to the Passport to Safety event to demonstrate the temperature difference inside a car compared to outside, emphasizing the importance of never leaving children alone in a hot vehicle.
