A Flash From The Past— New Heritage Editions Join The 2023 Bronco & Bronco Sport Lineups
A Brief History Of The BroncoÂ
With its launch in 1966, the Ford Bronco became the first automobile in the United States to be recognized as a “Sports-Utility Vehicle.” It was neither a car nor a truck but a vehicle that combined the best of both worlds. Â
Designed to drive nearly anywhere and do almost everything, the Bronco was initially offered in three body styles, the Roadster, Sports Utility, and Wagon. It was a capable off-roader as well as an exceptional highway cruiser. The vehicle became an instant success among the general public, adventure lovers, and off-road enthusiasts as it allowed them to showcase their personality, passion, and style.Â
The last Bronco left the assembly line on June 12, 1996. During its 31-year run, the Bronco underwent a continuous evolution, and a total of 1,148,926 units were built. The incredibly powerful SUV won countless hearts in its initial production run, and in 2023, the Bronco is making a comeback to elevate its legacy to a whole new level.Â
What The Future Holds?Â
With the release of the new Heritage and Heritage Limited editions, Ford pays homage to the original Bronco that made its debut in 1966. The special-edition models put a modern spin on the classic Bronco styling with several design cues evoking the timeless beauty of the vintage SUV. The retro grille is painted in Oxford White, along with the hardtop roof and 17- inch aluminum wheels. Furthermore, a white stripe extends through both sides of the SUV to complete its iconic 1960s look. All Bronco variants, including the Bronco Sport, the two-door Bronco, and the four-door Bronco will be offered in these special-edition models. However, Ford will only build 1,966 units for each Heritage Limited edition model to honor the year the iconic Bronco was initially launched.Â
Engine & Transmission
The Heritage edition of the Bronco is powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that produces an impressive 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft torque. The engine comes standard with a 7-speed manual transmission, but you can also opt for a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission that is available as an option. A slightly more capable and powerful 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine is fitted to the Heritage Limited edition models, which churns out a whopping 330 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. As for the transmission, the 10-speed SelectShift automatic is the only available option.Â
Suspension & Driving Modes
The Sasquatch Package is standard on the Heritage editions with H.O.S.S 2.0 (High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension) system that features position-sensitive dampers with end-stop control valves, increased ride height, Dana front and rear electronic locking axles, and 35-inch Goodyear mud-terrain tires. For a smooth and pleasant driving experience, the Bronco Heritage editions offer five G.O.A.T. (Goes Over All Terrain) modes, including Normal, Sport, Slippery, Eco, and Sand.Â
Exterior & Interior FeaturesÂ
In terms of exterior, the Heritage edition captures the true essence of the original Bronco. The white grille on the front reflects the authentic retro theme and features an iconic race-red “FORD” inscription. The 1960s-era- inspired squared fenders with Sasquatch-width fender flares offer a vintage appeal and cover a track that is nearly two inches wider. Ford has also added a powder-coated front steel bumper with built-in recovery points and integrated fog lamps for better looks and functionality.Â
Coming to the interior, the first thing that stands out is a unique Oxford White instrument panel with prominent “Bronco” lettering. Everything feels plush and refined inside the cabin, allowing you to cherish your off-road excursions in supreme comfort. The exclusive front and rear floor liners give the entire cabin a touch of luxury and class.Â
Color Options:Â
The Heritage edition is offered in five distinctive colors, while the Heritage Limited is initially only available in the retro Robin’s-Egg Blue. Late next year, Ford also intends to offer a second color option for the Heritage Limited edition, Yellowstone Metallic, which would resemble the Prairie Yellow shade from 1971. The “Peak Blue” color is expected to debut in 2024.Â
Exclusive Features On The Heritage “Limited” Edition:Â
With only 1,966 units being made, the gloss black-painted 17-inch wheels with classic “dog dish” centers are exclusive to the Heritage Limited editions, as are the leather-trimmed/vinyl plaid seats with white and red accent stitching and “Bronco” emblems on the fenders.Â

Great article. I ordered a 2022 Toyota 4 runner
Oh, what what it was arriving last May dealer told me that it was a different color a different trim that I ordered so I let someone else purchase the vehicle. I then went into a Ford dealer and test drove a full-size bronco and fell in love with it but I did not place an order as my fiancé came down with stage four breast cancer so much everything filled by the wayside.
So fast forward to today and when I talk to the two local dealers here in South Florida, they’re telling me that I cannot get on a waiting list for another two years or so. Find very interesting and really interesting in blue if possible. And someone at your dealer reach out to me and let me know if this is true I will be two years before Ford Motor Company will even open up the Order Banks?
Thank you very my,
Robert Klecinsky
