What's New for the Ford Explorer Lineup?
A new ST-Line trim is now available for the 2022 Explorer lineup, which combines the look of the ST trim with a more efficient turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain. The ST-Line model has 20-inch wheels and features black exterior accents. The cabin has a performance-oriented appearance, featuring faux-suede upholstery with red stitching and door-jamb protector plates with the ST-Line logo. Rear-wheel drive is now available on the ST model. The high-end King Ranch and Platinum models increased in power, now offering 400 horsepower. Both trims can also be fitted with a second-row bench seat or a pair of captain chairs at no extra charge. Timberline models, which were added to the lineup last year are now available with a second row bench.
Ford Explorer Performance Upgrades
The Base, XLT, and Limited models in the 2022 Explorer lineup are powered by the 300-hp turbocharged, 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine. A 400-hp twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V-6 engine power the King Ranch, Platinum, and ST models. The 2022 Explorer Hybrid model has a 3.3-liter V-6 and an electric motor, producing a total output of 318 horsepower. Standard equipment includes a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Explorer can tow 5,600 pounds when properly equipped. The Explorer is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, although all-wheel drive is available.

This advanced system of driver-assist technologies includes BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear View Camera, Lane-Keeping System, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Auto High-Beam Headlamps.
The 2022 Ford Explorer also comes standard with AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability ControlTM), Curve Control, SOS Post-Crash Alert SystemTM, and an advanced airbag system for increased vehicle wide safety.
