Guide To Ford’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
What Are Ford’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)?
As one of the leading automobile manufacturers in the world, Ford is setting new benchmarks in safety and driver convenience. Equipped with the latest, most advanced driver assistance systems, Ford vehicles ensure that occupants are secure and protected on the road. In this increasingly distracting world, Ford’s ADAS features help drivers stay focused and comfortable behind the wheel, significantly reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing the overall driving experience.
Join Bill Brown Ford in Livonia, Michigan, as we break down the features available in Ford’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
Ford Co-Pilot360 Technology
Ford’s Co-Pilot360 is a collection of advanced driver assistance systems that serve as an extra set of eyes to make driving safer and more convenient. The suite includes:
- Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
- BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert
- Auto High-Beam Headlamps
- Lane-Keeping system
- Rear View Camera
- Adaptive Cruise Control
Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
Pre-Collision Assist uses radar and camera technology to detect a potential collision with a vehicle or object around the vehicle. When the system senses a possible collision, it prompts you to brake with audio and visual alerts. If corrective action is not taken in time, and an impact is imminent, Automatic Emergency Braking can apply brakes if necessary. This feature is particularly useful in preventing rear-end collisions in stop-and-go traffic.
BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert
BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) uses radar sensors to detect any vehicle in your blind spot zone, making it easy to switch lanes safely. If a vehicle enters your blind spot, the system alerts you with an indicator light in the side-view mirrors.
Cross-Traffic Alert warns of traffic approaching from the sides as you reverse out of a driveway or parking spot. When it detects oncoming vehicles from either direction, it illuminates an indicator light in the side-view mirrors, sounds an alert, and displays a visual warning in the message center.
Auto High-Beam Headlamps
The Auto High-Beam Headlamps system senses the headlights of an approaching vehicle and automatically switches to low beams to improve visibility and reduce glare. Once the vehicle passes, the high beams turn back on automatically.
Lane-Keeping system
The Lane-Keeping system, with the help of a forward-facing camera, monitors your vehicle’s position in the lane and lets you know if you start to drift out. The system has three modes:
- Lane-Keeping Aid steers you back to the center of the lane by applying steering torque.
- Lane-Keeping Alert warns you through steering wheel vibrations that resemble driving on rumble strips.
- Driver Alert detects frequent lane deviations and sends warnings to the message center, reminding you it’s time to take a break.
Rear View Camera
The Rear View Camera activates as soon as the reverse gear is engaged, providing a comprehensive view of the area behind the vehicle along with guidelines. This feature facilitates precise and easy parking and reversing, reducing the risk of collisions with objects or pedestrians.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) lets the driver set a desired cruising speed and distance from the vehicle ahead. The system automatically adjusts the speed as the traffic conditions change. Additionally, ACC includes several advanced features:
- Speed Sign Recognition detects the speed limit signs on different road sections and adjusts the speed accordingly.
- Stop-and-Go brings your vehicle to a complete stop in slow-moving traffic. It resumes your preset speed as the vehicles ahead begin to move.
- Lane Centering constantly scans the lane markings on the road to keep your vehicle centered in its lane.
Ford’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are at the forefront of automotive safety and convenience technology. By integrating these cutting-edge features into its vehicles, Ford ensures that drivers and passengers are protected, comfortable, and well-assisted on every journey. Whether navigating busy city streets or cruising on the highway, Ford’s ADAS offers peace of mind and enhances the driving experience.
